Arthur A. "Sonny" Wessner

December 5, 1937 — August 15, 2016

Arthur A. "Sonny" Wessner, Jr. 78 of Upper Tulpehocken Township died Monday morning in the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Diane M. (Wagner) Wessner. They shared a loving marriage of fifty-six years.

Sonny was born in Tilden Township on December 5, 1937. He was the son of the late Arthur A. and Laura A. (Wagner) Wessner.

Arthur was blessed to be the father of three children; Brian A. husband of Sherry G. Wessner of Upper Tulpehocken Township; Mark A. husband of Robin A. Wessner of Schuylkill Haven; and Julie A. wife of Dwain A. Schlappich of Strausstown.

Sonny loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren; Neil husband of Erika Wessner; Nicole S. Wessner; Cole A. Schlappich; and Brett A. Schlappich. A step grandson, Roger Himmelberger, Jr.

Great grandchildren; Madison S. Wessner and Jake A. Wessner. Step great grandchildren; Dakota Himmelberger, and Dylan Himmelberger.

Mr. Wessner had two brothers; Arlan R. Wessner of Tilden Township; and Richard L. Wessner of Windsor Township. A sister, Carel A. Wessner of Tilden Township. He was predeceased by a sister, Elda Shaak.

Arthur was a member of Zion Blue Mountain United Church of Christ. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Hamburg for fifty-six years. Sonny belonged to the Hamburg Fire Company Relief Association.

Mr. Wessner served his county in the Army National Guards during peacetime.

Sonny enjoyed his employment with the Upper Tulpehocken Township for the past eight years with the road maintenance department. He last worked on Thursday. Prior to that employment, he was a truck driver with Mid Atlantic Canners for thirty-six years.

Funeral services from Zion Blue Mountain United Church of Christ, 6573 Old Route 22, Strausstown, PA 19559 on Friday, August 19th at Noon Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment in Strausstown Cemetery. Contributions may be given to the church in Sonny's memory.

The Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
