Barbara G. (Hays) Downs

Barbara G. Downs, 78, of Fredericksburg, PA passed away June 28, 2018 in Hershey Medical Center, Dauphin County, where she was a patient since June 14, 2018.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Howard R. Hays and Grace M. (Rosalina) Hays.

Barbara was a member of St. Thomas Church, Bernville. She was a graduate of Reading High School and retired from Post Precision Castings, Strausstown, where she was a cost accountant for 38 years.

Barbara volunteered for various Bernville community organizations and was considered a second Mom by many - always offering an open door and meals to kids in the community. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and taking her dog Alex for car rides.

Barbara is survived by her companion of 18 years, Jeffrey P. Rubendall, Fredericksburg; and a brother James H. Hays, Shillington.

Other survivors include six children: Patrick J. Downs husband of Michelle, Robesonia; Brian S. Downs, Mechanicsburg; Michael A. Downs, Bethel; Kevin G. Downs, Bethel; Denise A. Beissel wife of Ronald Jr., Mohrsville; and Kathleen L. Boyer wife of Brian, Reading.

Her pride and joy are her nine grandchildren: Alyssa, Morgan, Lauren, Adam, Brent K., Kyle, Krista, Karen and Eric; and her great-grandchildren: Adalyn, Avery, Brennan and Anna.

A memorial service officiated by Rev. William Miller will be held at Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 North Main Street, Bernville on Friday July, 6th at 3:00 PM. Visitation with the family will be held at the funeral home Friday 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM.
