He was the widower of L. Jane Fies, the love of his life, to whom he was married for almost 57 years.

The advent of World War II prevented the boys soccer team from playing in the State Championship.

In November 2008, Bruce was inducted into the Muhlenberg High School Hall of Fame for his accomplishments on the athletic field.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946 during World War II. He continued to participate in athletics as a Marine and won multiple medals with his Marine division. Bruce is a recipient of the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Marine Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII and Pacific Theater Medals.

Bruce worked for many years for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Laureldale, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale.

He is survived by his children, Scott N., husband of Susan E. Fies, of Riverview Park; and Robin J., wife of Marshall D. Deweese, of Cape Cod, Mass.

Other survivors include his son-in-law, Barry Butterweck; five grandchildren: Allison (Fies) Clark, Shawn Deweese, Lauren Deweese, Bobbi Butterweck and Marci (Butterweck) Harr; 4 great-grandchildren: Bode Wentzel, Brady Wentzel, Tanner Harr and Owen Harr; his companion of almost 2 years, a rescued yellow Lab named Trixy.
