Charles John Smith, Sr.

Charles John Smith, Sr., passed away peacefully on February 14, 2024, at the Reading Hospital. 

Born on March 2, 1932, he was a son to the late John D. and the late Beulah (Behney) Smith. 

Charles was an esteemed employee of Hoffman Industries for over 40 years. Additionally, Charles worked part-time at the Reading Fairgrounds as a security guard for two decades and Lee Myles Transmissions. Charles was a proud United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean War.

He is survived by his devoted children: Hank W. Smith, husband of Lorrie; Charles J. Smith, Jr., husband of Lisa; and Randy Smith. His granddaughter, Anique Smith, and great-granddaughter Mia held a special place in Charles' heart. 

In addition to immediate family members, Charles is survived by siblings Herbert Smith, Richard Smith (husband of Sandy), and Shirley Strunk (wife of Ralph). During his final years, Charles received exceptional care from Charity and her four children. Their dedication and compassion provided comfort and allowed Charles to spend his final moments surrounded by love.

Charles was predeceased by his sisters, Mabel Strunk, wife of the late Lester Strunk, and Emily Hamm, wife of the late Wilmer Hamm, and one brother, Calvin Smith. 

A viewing will be held on, Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Kirkhoff Funeral Home located at 206 North Main Street in Bernville. Following the viewing, a funeral service will take place at the same location from 11:00 am.

Burial will take place in St. John Hain's Cemetery, Wernersville.
