Dorothy J. Hinkle

Dorothy J. "Nana Dot" (Moyer) Hinkle, 95, of Temple, Pa., died Saturday, August 12, 2017 in her home. Formerly of Blandon, Dorothy was a daughter of Paul D. and Eva M. (Miller) Moyer. Married December 2, 1939, she was the long-devoted wife of George W. Hinkle who passed away in 1965.
Dorothy dedicated her life to caring for others. She was the family matriarch. Dorothy was an active member of the Maidencreek Church, she sang in church choir, helped with the Joy-Givers, was a member of the Church Council and for many years together with her husband, served as church custodians.
Her other volunteer activities included the Lion's Club, Blandon Fire Co. Auxiliary, Temple Fire Co, Walnuttown Fire Co., Catering at Shoemakersville Fire Co., and she helped with disabled children in summer camp. Dorothy was very ambitious; she was very good at sewing, knitting, crocheting, she enjoyed bingo and bowling, she picked up a few odd jobs cleaning and worked at the Myers Cannery.
She adored children and was lovingly called 'Nana Dot' by not only her own family, but also by those who loved her dearly for her gentle heart and warm character.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Loretta M. Ernst and her husband Ronald of Temple, and Kathleen K. Seidel and her husband Clare of Reading, eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and eighteen great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by two sons, Elwood (Butch) E. Hinkle and Donald P. Hinkle, two brothers and a sister.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Milkins Giles Funeral Home, 4914 Kutztown Rd. Temple, PA 19560, officiated by Reverend Sara Hertzog. Her family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday evening, August 16th, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home and again Thursday prior to the service from 10 - 11 a.m.
Interment will immediate follow the service in Maidencreek Cemetery.
