Dorothy E. (Kline) Hughes, 96, of The Highlands at Wyomissing and formerly of Temple died Thursday, February 11, 2016 in Reading Hospital.
She was the widow of Carl E. Hughes who died October 9, 2006. Born in Hamburg she was daughter of the late Leo J. and Vera P. (Rauenzahn) Knoblauch.
She was a graduate of Reading High School and The McCann School of Business.
She was employed as a bookkeeper by the former Reading Laundries and lastly in the payroll department of Met Ed until her retirement in 1969.
She was a member of the former Epiphany Lutheran Church, Temple now Calvary Lutheran Church ,Laureldale. Dorothy was an avid bridge player all her life and attained the level of Bronze Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League.
She is survived by a son, Michael D. husband of Carol Hughes of Brigantine, NJ and a daughter, Kathleen H. Manzella wife of Joseph J. Manzella, Jr. of Wyomissing Hills and 5 grandchildren: Zachary T.H. Manzella, partner of Sarah Ballard; Abigail G.H. Manzella, wife of Lee Manion; Alison, wife of Joseph Rossi; Beth, wife of Kyle McCarter; and Jeffrey, husband of Marcela Hughes. There are also 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services are private from Laureldale Cemetery Chapel.
Entombment will be in the adjoining mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Northwest Middle School (Academic Award Fund) 1000 N. Front St., Reading, 19601.
