Doyle L. Showers

Doyle L. Showers, age 85, of Bernville died Saturday, June 22nd at 2:15 p.m. in his residence with his loving family by his bedside. Also, present was Caring Hospice Services and Aide, Julie, which provided much love and care during his illness.
He was the husband of Fay B. (Ney) Showers, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.
Born December 26, 1927 in Penn Twp., he was the son of the late Oscar P. Showers and Ella M. (Henne) Showers.
After graduating from the former Penn Bernville High School in 1945, Doyle served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II. He subsequently worked for his family's electrical company, later starting his own electrical business from which he retired in 1978. After his retirement, he worked as an operator for the Bernville Borough sewage plant for 28 years.
Doyle was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Freidens Church of Bernville. He was also a former Explorer Scouts leader for Pack 422 of Bernville and a 4-H Club leader and instructor. He was instrumental in the formation of the Western Berks Swimming Association in 1958. His hobbies included snow and water skiing. He was an avid genealogist for the community and his family.
Along with his wife, survivors include two sons: Kenneth D., husband of Vicki (Hollenbach) Showers of Penn Twp. and Todd S. Showers of State College. Also surviving are two grandchildren; Cara wife of Wayne Kramer and Erin wife of Jorge Velazquez. Two great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday the 28th at 10:30 a.m. at the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 N. Main St. Bernville, PA 19506 with Reverend Robert G. Argot, Jr. officiating. Inurnment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Bernville. Family and friends are invited to call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
