Elwood J. “Slug” Oxenreider, 95. of Temple, passed away on April 29, 2024, in Berks Heim Nursing Home.
 
Born on October 23, 1928, he was a son to the late Elwood G. and Clara (Kline) Oxenreider. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Marbarger) Oxenreider whom passed away in 1998.

Slug was a man of honor and dedication. His journey through life was adorned with selfless service and remarkable achievements. A proud alumnus of Muhlenberg High School's class of 1946, Slug's thirst for knowledge later led him to Albright. His education laid the foundation for a remarkable career that spanned decades.


Slug's professionalism shone brightly during his tenure as a Plant Superintendent at Dana Corp for an impressive 37 years. Even after retirement, his expertise was sought after as he graciously shared his wisdom as a Consultant for an additional 11 years. 
 
A courageous Veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a 1st Lieutenant, he exemplified bravery and patriotism throughout his service. 
 
Slug held lifetime memberships at Temple Fire Company, Central Fire Company in Laureldale, and Elks Reading Lodge #115, where he served as Exalted Ruler for many years and also served with Veteran's Making A Difference showcased Slug's deep sense of civic duty. Slug was inducted into the Muhlenberg Townships Area High School Hall of Fame in 1999.  Additionally, he was a respected member of Fleetwood American Legion Auxiliary Post 625. In his free time, Slug enjoyed feeding birds and working on the puzzles in the paper. He was also an avid golfer and bowler. 
 
His legacy lives on through his surviving family members: Children Jeffrey J. Oxenreider (husband of Linda), Karen Lessie (wife of Tim), Elaine Palm (wife of Walter), LouAnn "Boop" Oxenreider, Marcia Krott; five grandchildren, Jason, Lindsay, Alicia, Nicholas, and Jacob; six great-grandchildren, Braden, Carter, Maia, Mikayla, Mia, and Giovanni; brother Lynn F. “Skip” Oxenreider (husband of Josephine); and long-time companion Barbara Rowlands.
 
In addition to his parents, Elwood G. and Clara (Kline) Oxenreider, Elwood was predeceased by; two sons, James B. Oxenreider and Michael D. Oxenreider; and siblings George D. Oxenreider, PeggyAnn Reiniger, and Barrett B. Oxenreider; and his 2 beloved dogs, whom were bothers, Double and Trouble. 
 
A visitation will be held Monday, May 6, 2024 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am in the Milkins Trymbiski Funeral Home, 4914 Kutztown Road, Temple.
 
Burial will take place in Laureldale Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Elwood’s name may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508.

Milkins Trymbiski Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
