George T. McNally

September 25, 1932 — October 6, 2022

Penn Township

George T. McNally, 87, of Bernville, entered eternal life on Wednesday, October 6. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of George A. and Dorothy (Horgan) McNally. He was the husband of Kathleen (Bieber) McNally. In addition to his wife and yellow lab Maggie, George is survived by his son, Dan McNally and Dan's wife Kim; his daughter, Debbie, and her husband, Phil Goshert; and his brother, Gene McNally and Gene's wife Barbara.

Growing up in Brooklyn, George was a devoted Dodger fan and enjoyed watching his favorite player, Pee Wee Reese, play at Ebbets Field. After his beloved Dodgers moved to Los Angeles and George moved to Pennsylvania, he became a Phillies Phan.

George was a graduate of Teaneck (NJ) High School and Rutgers University. He was employed by Crompton & Knowles Corporation as its purchasing agent, retiring in 1998 to pursue his love of obedience and agility competition with his yellow labs Toby and Vicki. (Thank you, Cindy Christie for these two gems!)

In 1994 George joined the Berks County Dog Training Club where he was smitten with dog-training fever. There he met fellow dog trainer, Linda Strauch, and in 2000 they opened The Puppy School in George's Penn Township home. Under the leadership of Marge Stiller, George became an active member of Therapy Dogs, Inc., Paws for Wellness, and the Therapy Dog Reading Program at the Wyomissing Library. With George as her handler, his dog Vicki appeared in the role of Sandy in four local productions of the musical ANNIE.

Kathy would like to thank the Bayada Hospice Team and Jocelyn who did an amazing job caring for him and lifting his spirits.

A memorial service for George will be held at 11: 00 am on Tuesday, October 18th, at Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 North Main Street, Bernville, the Rev. John Conover officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Immediately following the service there will be a luncheon at Blue Marsh Italian Restaurant. Please join with his family and friends to celebrate George's life and to share your memories of him.
