Herbert D. "Mush" Blatt

December 2, 1922 — March 15, 2014

Herbert D. "Mush" Blatt, 91, of Temple, passed away Saturday, March 15th at St. Joseph's Medical Center.

Born in Laureldale, he was the son of the late Herbert R. and Edna W. (Wanner) Blatt.

Herbert served his country as an Army sergeant in the F Company, 115th Regiment, 29th Infantry Division during WWII. He landed on D-Day on June 6, 1944 and was wounded on June 15th at St. Lo, France and again at Pont-Farcy, France.

He was awarded the combat infantry badge; EAME service medal with two bronze stars; two purple hearts with one oak leaf cluster; good conduct medal; and distinguished unit badge.

Herbert was employed as a plumber for Car-Tech for 33 years, retiring in 1983. He was also a member of the Temple Fire Co.

Surviving are his two children: Arthur H. Blatt of Spring Twp.; and Rita I. Hivner, and companion Frederick VanderSnow, of Boyertown.
There are three granddaughters: Kelly (Blatt) Swanger, Kimberly Ann Blatt, and Kristi Marie Blatt; and a great-grandson, Matthew Swanger.
Also surviving is his brother, Paul Blatt of Laureldale.

Herbert was predeceased by his four brothers: Robert, Howard, Edwin, and Wallace Blatt; and his four sisters: Lillian, widow of John Swisher; Catherine Bingaman; Florence, widow of Lester Baer; and Doris, whose widower David Marburger survives.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 20th at 11:00 a.m. at the Milkins Giles Funeral Home, Inc., 4914 Kutztown Rd., Temple, PA with Rev. Robert G. Argot, Jr. officiating.
Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood.
