Jack R. Williams, Jr., a dedicated public servant and accomplished musician, passed away peacefully at his home on June 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 7, 1947, in West Reading, Pennsylvania, Jack’s life was marked by a steadfast commitment to both his professional career and his passion for music.
Jack graduated from the Esther Boyer College of Music in Philadelphia, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in conducting music. His deep love for music shaped much of his life; he was an accomplished pianist and organist, a choir conductor, and served with distinction as the Music President and Music Director for the Welsh Society of Philadelphia. He was also a devoted member of the Welsh Guild at Arch Street Presbyterian Church. Beyond his musical achievements, Jack enjoyed traveling the world and cherished his visits to Cape May beach. Above all, he found great joy in the company of his family and friends.
His professional career spanned an impressive 38 years as a General Services Administrator for the government. Throughout his tenure, Jack held numerous roles of significant responsibility, contributing notably within the Regional Commissions Federal Acquisitions Service. His exemplary service culminated in his retirement as a career senior executive. Among his many distinguished assignments, he played an instrumental role in Presidential Advance Work for three administrations: those of President Richard Nixon, President Ronald Reagan, and President Gerald Ford.
Jack’s family was a central part of his life. He was the loving husband of Peter Jacobs, with whom he shared 26 wonderful years. He was the proud father of Megan Williams Freeman, married to Chris, and a devoted stepfather to Liz Jacobs, Alex Jacobs (husband of Preethiya Sekar), Nicola Hill Solomon (wife of Vic), and Ryder Hill. Jack’s affectionate nature extended to his grandchildren, Penelope Freeman and Jocelyn Freeman, who brought him great happiness. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack R. Williams, Sr., and Grace Lenora (Livengood) Williams.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in memory of Jack R. Williams, Jr. to the Welsh Society of Philadelphia Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 7287, Saint Davids, PA 19087-7287.
