Larry R. Umbenhower Sr., 87, of Temple, PA, died peacefully at Reading Hospital on April 22, 2026.
Larry was born January 22, 1939, to Raymond and Ethel Umbenhower (later Peters).
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Larry served for six years and was stationed at Spandau Prison in 1962, where he guarded convicted World War II war criminal Rudolf Hess. Following his military service, Larry worked for Hoffman Industries for 25 years and retired in 2002.
Larry was a lifelong Phillies fan and enjoyed games at the ballpark with family and working around the house. He also loved spending time with his family and was always ready to help whenever they needed anything, big or small.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jennie, daughter Jennie Hafer (wife of Barry), son Larry Jr. (husband of Pamela), and five grandchildren: Zachariah (husband of Christina), Barry Jr., Larry III, Steven (partner of Latress), and Jennie (wife of Joel, with a child on the way), sisters Nancy and Gloria, and step-sister Patricia.
Larry was predeceased by his father Raymond (1959), his mother Ethel, stepfather Edward Peters, sister Janice, and great-grandson Hayden.
A viewing will be held at Milkins Trymbiski Funeral Home, 4914 Kutztown Rd., Temple, PA 19560, Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 10-11 a.m, followed by funeral services.
