Leon H. "Babe" Schadler

January 28, 1936 — June 17, 2018

Leon H. "Babe" Schadler, 82, formerly of Muhlenberg Twp., passed away Sunday, June 17th in Manor Care in Sinking Spring.

He was married for sixty two loving years to Dorothy (Hoagland) Schadler.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Leon W. Schadler and Edna (Lienbach) Schadler.

In his earlier years he was a civilian employee for Squad No. 148, Middletown National Guard. He then was employed at Parish / Dana in Reading for eight years.

For thirty years he was employed at Carpenter Technology in Reading, retiring in 1996.

He was a member of Chandler Lodge, No. 227, F&AM, Reading.

Throughout his life Leon was a very dedicated blood donor.

Trap shooting was a lifelong passion of Leon's, entering in numerous competitions. He was a member of many gun clubs, including Pricetown Rifle and Pistol Club and the Southend Gun Club. He was a true outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, and riding his snowmobile.

He was an avid collector of many things and loved playing poker with his friends.

He was a devoted Phillies and Eagles fan, thank God he was able to see the Eagles finally win the Super Bowl.

Additional survivors include Leon's children, David L. Schadler of Shenandoah, Robert H. Schadler and wife Suzan of Reading, Judy L. Torres, and husband Roy Torres of Oley, and Pamela A. Reiter, and husband John Reiter of Kutztown.

Also, Leon's grandchildren, Dereck, Jade, John (J.C.), Spencer, Jacob, Shawn, and Amy.

There are four great grandchildren, Bradley, Tayte, Kaylee, and Tanner.

Leon is survived by his siblings, Violet Delp and husband Norman Delp, Barbara Perez., Kathryn Heffner, widow of Richard Heffner, Peggy, Sharon, and Douglas.

He is predeceased by a sister, Dora.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 21st at 11 am in Berks County Memorial Gardens, 201 Evansville Rd., Fleetwood, PA 19522.

Reverend Dr. Anja N. Stuckenberger will officiate.

There will not be a public viewing.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society, 1801 N. 11th St., Reading, PA 19604 and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
