Leon G. Schmehl

September 26, 1923 — February 6, 2014

Leon G. Schmehl, 90, of Muhlenberg Twp., entered into eternal rest Thursday, February 6th at ManorCare in Laureldale.

He was the husband of Mary Jane (Adams) Schmehl.

Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Alvin and Minnie (Lengel) Schmehl.

Leon graduated from Ontelaunee Vocational School in 1942. He subsequently attended Mastbaum Vocational School, Penn State Extension, Muhlenberg Votec, and ICS.

Leon taught adult education for 13 years at night at Berks Votec. He was also employed in the electrical field at various locations from 1946-1986 and served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodwork.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Richard L. Schmehl, husband of Roberta A. (Pawlik) of Ontelaunee Twp.

There are four grandchildren: Collin R. Schmehl of Ontelaunee Twp.; Courtney J. (Schmehl), wife of Mark J. Shober of Elizabeth, NJ; Brian L. Schmehl, husband of Stephanie of Royal Center, IN; and Brent A. Schmehl of Logansport, IN; and three great-grandchildren: Angela, Seth, and Emily Schmehl, all of Royal Center, IN.

Also surviving is a brother, Clayton Schmehl, husband of Helen of Bethel Twp.

Leon was predeceased by his first wife, Mildred E. (Marks) Schmehl in 1951.

He was also predeceased by three brothers: Herbert, Marvin, and Clarence Schmehl; and one sister, Miriam Kurtz.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 12th at 11:00 a.m. at the Milkins Giles Funeral Home, Inc., 4914 Kutztown Rd., Temple, PA 19560, with Rev. Carl Adams officiating. Entombment will follow in the Laureldale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
