Leonard L. Gontkovsky

Leonard L. Gonkovsky, 85, of Reading, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2018.

He was the widower of Theresa K. (Didyoung) Gontkovsky, who passed away on May 7, 2015, and with whom he celebrated fifty years of marriage.

Born in Maidencreek Township, Leonard was the son of the late Andrew J. and Mary (Reenock) Gontkovsky.

Leonard was a graduate of Kutztown High School.

He was employed as a laborer at the former Allentown Portland Cement Co. for forty years, retiring in 1995.

He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran.

Leonard was a longtime member of St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church in Reading where he served as custodian for many years.

Leonard is survived by his sister, Dorothy, widow of Arlan Wessner, of Fleetwood.

He has several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Leonard was predeceased by a brother, Edward Gontkovsky; and sisters: Kathryn Gontkovsky, Margaret Gontkovsky, Evelyn Redcay and Anna Moyer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 20th at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, 925 Centre Ave., Reading, PA with Reverend Angel Luis Garcia-Almodovar as celebrant.

A visitation with the family will be held on Monday morning from 10 until 11 a.m. in the church.

Final commendation and farewell will follow in Gethseman Cemetery Mausoleum in Laureldale.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, 925 Centre Ave., Reading, PA 19601 would be deeply appreciated.
