Lester S. Mengel

November 24, 1930 — January 29, 2017

Lester S. Mengel, 86 of Penn Township died Sunday 1:45 A.M. in his residence. He was the husband of G. Joan (Snyder) Mengel. They shared a loving marriage of sixty-six years taking their vows on September 16, 1950.

Lester was born in Upper Tulpehocken Township on November 24, 1930. He was the son of the late Charles H. and Mabel (Stine) Mengel.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Lois T. wife of Reverend Del Keeney of Mechanicsburg. A daughter, Lisa A. Brosious, predeceased her father on April 4, 1990.

Three grandchildren; Chris Keeney, Ben Keeney and wife Lauren, and Jon Keeney and wife Laura. Two deceased grandchildren; Derek and Cameron Brosious. Two great grandchildren; Aaron and Julia Keeney.

Two deceased sisters; Helen Mengel and Mildred Stoudt.

Mr. Mengel was a member of St. Thomas Church for forty-three years serving as a deacon and a trustee. For the past twenty-three years he has been a member of Bethesda E. C. Church, Schuylkill Haven.

Lester proudly served his country in the U.S. Army medical corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post #732 of Bernville. He graduated from Hamburg High School graduating in the class of 1949.

Mr. Mengel was a dedicated worker as a brick/block/stone mason working for various contractors for over sixty years.

Memorial services from Bethesda E.C. Church, 155 Reedville Road, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972 on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. with Pastors Jeffrey Byerly and Mark Brooks officiating. Family will receive friends on Thursday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. Private interment in St. Thomas Cemetery, Bernville.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 North Main Street, Bernville.
