Marsha M. "Mammy" Painter, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 12, 2026, at her residence after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Born on August 14, 1953, in Pottstown, Marsha lived a life rich with love, devotion, and a profound connection to her family and the simple joys that filled her days.
A proud 1971 graduate of Boyertown High School, Marsha dedicated much of her working life to her community. She was a dedicated stay at home mother who babysat the neighborhood children. She then took her talents to Fleetwood Shirt until its closure, and later at Elite Sporting, where she worked in quality control. Known for her precision and dedication.
Outside of work, Marsha’s heart blossomed in the warmth of her home and the beauty of nature. She loved sewing and quilting, and often made baby blankets which she gifted to her loved ones. Her baking was a testament to her nurturing spirit. Marsha’s homemade birthday cakes were a birthday must for her family. She found deep joy in the outdoors—gardening and tending to her flower beds. Many treasured moments were spent at the family’s hunting cabin, The North Forty, a place where laughter and love intertwined amid the rustling trees.
Marsha’s life was made whole by her loving family. She shared 51 years of marriage with her devoted husband, John D. Painter, Sr., a steadfast partner through all seasons of life. Together, they raised two sons, John D. Painter, Jr., husband of Michelle, and Jared M. Painter, who carry forward her legacy of kindness and integrity. Her heart expanded with the arrival of grandchildren—Tristian Spannuth, husband of Kasey, MaKayla Painter, and Chase Painter—who brought untold joy and pride. Marsha never missed a sporting game or moment to celebrate her grandchildren. Marsha also embraced the role of great-grandmother with immense love for Jaxson and Malia Spannuth, whose smiles were bright reflections of her enduring spirit.
She was deeply connected to her siblings, sharing lifelong bonds with Michelle Zieser, Michael Bower and his wife Karen, and Marilyn Frey and her husband Larry. Their ties were further enriched by numerous nieces and nephews who admired her for her warmth and wisdom. She had a loving lifelong bond with her sister-in-law Susan Quinter.
Marsha was preceded in death by her beloved parents, William L. and Nancy (Moyer) Bower, whose memories she cherished and carried close to her heart.
Funeral Services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marsha's name may be made to the Breast Cancer Foundation online at Komen.org or your local fire company.
Her passing leaves a profound void, yet her legacy of love, courage, and grace will forever illuminate the lives she touched. Surrounded by the unwavering love of her family, Marsha’s spirit now rests peacefully, forever blooming in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
