Marvin G. Ammarell, 82, of Centre Township, Berks County, passed away Thursday in his residence. He married his highschool sweetheart, Shirley M. (Burkhart) Ammarell. They shared a loving marriage of 63 ½ years.
Born in Temple, Marvin was the son of the late Franklin G. and Emily I. (Kehr) Ammarell.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Shirley are the following children; Alan G. husband of Ellen M. Ammarell of Bern Township, Robin A. wife of Dennis B. Campbell of Bern Township, and Travis M. husband of Debra A. Ammarell of Centre Township. Six grandchildren; Franklin M. Ammarell, Jacob M. Ammarell, Kristin Good, Kyle D. Campbell, Luke A. Ammarell, and Allison L. Ammarell. Three great grandchildren; Ethan Ammarell, Felicity Ammarell, and Theodore Good.
Sister, Raedell wife of Arlan Marks of Fleetwood.
He was a graduate in 1955 from the former Ontelaunee High School. Marvin served his country during peacetime in the United States Marine Corp. He qualified for the expert marksmanship award while he was in the Marine Corp. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. He especially enjoyed the yearly fishing trips to Canada with his family and friends.
He retired on November 9, 1995 with thirty-six years of service last working as a press operator for Carpenter Technology.
He shot trap in the Carpenter League and once earned Top Gun. Marvin also drove firetruck for the Leesport Fire Company for 25 years. He was an honorary lifetime member.
Funeral services are from Milkins Giles Funeral Home, Inc. Temple on Tuesday at 11:00 AM with his nephew, the Reverend Kirk Marks officiating. Interment is in St. John’s (Gernants) Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home, and Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until time of the service.
