Marvin F. Ritter, Jr.

September 17, 1943 — September 22, 2025

Marvin F. Ritter, Jr., affectionately known to his friends and family as "Joe" or "Marv," was born on September 17, 1943, in Elizabeth City, Virginia. He spent his final moments on September 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy that embodies warmth, laughter, and a passion for music and travel.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Joe's commitment to service extended beyond his military duties. He was known for his jovial nature—always with a twinkle in his eye and a joke poised on his lips. He relished time spent with family, putting smiles on faces and filling rooms with laughter.

Joe dedicated nearly two successful decades of his career as a Senior Systems Analyst at Hershey Foods, where he crafted solutions that helped the experiences of countless customers. His retirement in 1999 marked the end of a corporate chapter but heralded the beginning of a new adventure-filled life.

Marv passionately played the trombone for many years, lending his talent to bands such as the Keystone Band in Rehrersburg and sharing his musical gift for an impressive 25 years with the Washington Band of Annville. Joe's contributions to the arts continued as he played music for the Tulpehocken High School Musicals, inspiring younger generations to pursue their passions.

Travel was another of Joe's beloved pastimes. He and his devoted wife of 54 years, Shirley C. (Simmons) Ritter, shared innumerable adventures, from cross-country road trips with their children to leisurely cruises exploring the globe. As their family expanded, they were fortunate to carry forward this legacy of exploration and togetherness, making memories with not only their children but also their cherished grandchildren.

Joe was deeply interconnected with his family, who held a special place in his heart. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley, and three children: Jeffrey L. Ritter, Kristie B. Grier, wife of Andrew M. Grier, Jr., and Isabelle Condou, partner of Jean-Nicolas Schoeser. His love and legacy are continued through his grandchildren—Samantha D. Grier, Benjamin A. Grier, Asher I. Grier, Holton M. Ritter, Eliana O. Grier, Zachariyah Z. Grier, Nevaeh B. Ritter, Ethan I. Grier, Emilien Sallard, Gabriel Sallard, and Vania Condou-Schoeser. Each of them carries forward the joyful spirit and values he instilled in them.

Marv is also survived by his sister-in-law, Carol A. (Kimmel) Ritter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin F. Ritter, Sr. and Margaret E. (Clark) Ritter, and his brother, Clark A. Ritter.

As we gather to celebrate Joe's remarkable life, we remember not only his humorous tales and musical gifts but also his unfaltering love for family and friends. A burial will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 11:30 am.
