Pauline K (Manbeck) Himmelberger

Pauline Kathryn Himmelberger (Manbeck), age 100, of Wernersville, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Phoebe Berks where she lived for the past 20 years.

Pauline, daughter of Earl and Sallie (Miller) Manbeck, was born in Bethel Township in Berks County on April 30, 1923. She was married to the late John E. Himmelberger for 62 years before his passing in 2008.

She was a graduate of Bethel High School, now Tulpehocken High School, in 1941, and the Reading Hospital School of Nursing in 1944. Upon graduation from nursing school she worked at the Emergency Hospital in Washington, D.C. After WWII she moved back to Berks County, married, and raised two daughters in Strausstown, PA. She later continued her career in nursing at the Hamburg State Center in Hamburg, PA, where she was greatly loved and respected. She was a proud and active member of the Zion Blue Mountain United Church of Christ, the Women's Club of Strausstown and the Conrad Weiser Order of the Eastern Star.

Pauline is survived by her two daughters, Susan Jane Schlanger, wife of the late Lawrence Schlanger, and Cathy Anne Richardi, wife of Ralph L. Richardi; three grandchildren, Stephanie Schlanger (wife of Adam Romary), Chad Schlanger (husband of Korissa Quinter) and Jennifer Richardi (wife of Christopher Cummings); and seven great-grandchildren, Lauren and Daphne Romary, Lawrence, Ari and Ever Schlanger, and Frank and Rose Cummings.

Pauline was kind and gracious to all, a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a friend to many. She will be remembered.

A memorial service will be held at the Phoebe Berks Chapel in Wernersville at 11 am Monday, August 21, 2023, for friends and family. Burial will take place for family at St. Paul's cemetery in New Schaefferstown, PA, Monday at 1230.
