Phyllis E. Marbarger, a dedicated nurse, caring mother, and passionate volunteer, passed away on May 7, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on November 23, 1938, she was the beloved daughter of the late Henry and Ferne (Koch) Thomas.
Phyllis was a 1956 graduate of Muhlenberg High School then pursued nursing at the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her R.N. Phyllis worked as an R.N. at Reading Hospital and at Berks Heim. She also enjoyed serving students at Muhlenberg High School as a para-professional, positively impacting the lives of many students and staff.
She had a profound affection for all animals and dogs, but loved her Pugs more than life itself. She found joy in knitting, Sudoku and most recently Bingo. She also thoroughly enjoyed the horse races and claw machines at the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk. Her volunteer work included YWCA Reading as the Director of Blue Mountain Camp in the 1980’s, where she played an integral role in facilitating memorable experiences. Additionally, she volunteered at the Muhlenberg library, providing valuable reading help to students in need.
Phyllis is survived by her four daughters: Kelly Bright, wife of Stephen; Amy Thomas, wife of Lucia Campeanu; Julie McCarthy, wife of Robert; and Erin Schneider, wife of Eric. She was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren.
Phyllis is predeceased by her husband, James P. Marbarger, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage, and her beloved parents, Henry and Ferne.
