Richard D. Messner

Richard D. Messner, 59, a devoted father and cherished member of the Bernville community, was born on March 1, 1966, and passed away on June 28, 2025, at Reading Hospital, with his loving daughter by his side. He leaves behind a profound legacy of love and dedication to his family and friends.

Richard's professional journey included significant roles within the Tulpehocken School District, where he served in various capacities, including as a courier and in janitorial services. He also contributed to to Berks Heim, working in the laundry department. His work reflected his commitment to serving others, a quality that was evident throughout his life.

Richard was a proud graduate of Reading High School, class of 1985. He enjoyed history and learning more through reading books and watching shows. He was an active member of St. Thomas Church in Bernville, where he found solace and community among fellow parishioners. Richard's spirit shone brightly through his enthusiasm for Philadelphia sports teams, as well as his support for his daughter's alma mater, both Tulpehocken and Millersville University.

Richard's most treasured accomplishment was his relationship with his daughter, Alyssa Messner, who was the light of his life. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Elsie Ritchie. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Melissa (Himmelberger) Messner, with whom he shared 26 wonderful years of marriage, as well as his parents, the late Charles and Shirley (Peiffer) Messner.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Richard’s life during the viewing on July 3, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM at Kirkhoff Funeral Home, located at 206 North Main Street, Bernville, PA 19506. Burial will take place in Strausstown Cemetery.

Richard D. Messner will be deeply missed by all who knew him; his gentle spirit and unwavering love for family and community will forever be remembered in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
