Shirley Yoder, née Bortz, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, in Milford, Delaware. Born on November 18, 1937, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Shirley lived a life marked by unwavering devotion to her family, a role she cherished deeply above all else.

A proud graduate of Muhlenberg High School, Shirley devoted her career to the care and nurturing of her loved ones, dedicating herself to creating a warm and loving home. Her selflessness and strength were the cornerstones of her family life, qualities that endeared her to those around her and left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She was the proprietor of the Knick Knack Knook in York Haven for many years and then went to work for Rental Uniform Service from where she retired in 1998. Shirley also served as the president of the York Haven Susquehanna Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for many years.

Shirley was the beloved daughter of the late Robert V. and Bessie R. Bortz. She was the cherished wife of the late George P. Yoder, whom she married in 1960 until his time of passing in 1983, whose partnership was a foundation of love and mutual respect throughout their lives together. Shirley also mourned the loss of her son, Shawn B. Yoder, and grandson, Shay C. Miller, both dearly missed by the family.

She leaves behind a devoted circle of family members who continue to honor her memory with love and gratitude. Her daughters, Georgeanne P. Yoder, wife of Larry Yerger, and Judy M. Urey, wife of Steve Urey, carry forward her legacy. Shirley’s spirit lives on vibrantly through her grandchildren—Jeremiah Brothers, Katherine Hake, Jessica Porter, and Kristen Miller—and her great-grandchildren, Dean Perry, Gavin Brothers, Colby Brothers, Saige Miller, Olivia Miller, Jaxon Porter, and Jordyn Porter, each of whom was a source of immense pride and joy to her.

Shirley’s life was a testament to the power of family bonds and the quiet courage it takes to dedicate oneself entirely to the wellbeing of others. Her memory endures in the hearts of all who were fortunate to share in her remarkable journey. As her family and friends remember her tender spirit and steadfast care, Shirley Yoder remains an enduring example of love and devotion.
