Stephen Pradon

April 17, 1923 — September 29, 2016

Stephen Pradon, 93, of Muhlenberg Township, passed away Thursday September 29, 2016 in his residence. He was the widower of Frances M.(Bellock) Pradon, who died October 19, 2007.

Mr. Pradon was born on April 17, 1923 in Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA and grew up on his parents' dairy farm in Sterling, PA. He was the son of the late Anthony and Anna (Bochco) Pradon.

He was a very industrious person, always searching for new opportunities. In his
younger years he was employed to train and care for the horses at the New York and New Jersey race tracks and while living there he witnessed the Hindenburg disaster. While training as a jockey's apprentice he decided to enlist and serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was very active during war time with the Liberty Ship/PT Operations and was in the English Channel during the invasion of France on D-Day and also served in the Mediterranean. During his service he was paralyzed and
spent six months in a New Orleans naval hospital, despite his injury he returned home and taught roller skating.

He then moved to Pottsville, PA where he worked as a coal miner for several years. That is where he met his beloved wife Francy. They were married for 62 years.

He was a carpenter by trade and won awards for his exquisite doll houses. He also made mangers and donated them for the alters and classrooms of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, where he was a member.

Steve and Frances then relocated to Reading, PA where he worked for thirty years at
Carpenter Technology Corp., retiring in 1985. He was also the owner of Pradon Aluminum and Doors for forty-one years.

Steve loved to hunt and fish, but in later years found contentment in just watching the animals stroll past the picture window at the cabin he built on his childhood homestead. He also loved gardening and playing cards and checkers with his children, grandchildren and brother in-laws.

He was a very generous and outgoing person who is very much loved and will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his two children: Stephen D., husband of Kathy (Miller) Pradon and
Danielle J., wife of Sheldon Baumener. Steve is also survived by six grandchildren: Stephen, Eric and Brian Pradon. Christopher, Ryan and Shawna Baumener. Also, by one of his favorite great granddogs Dewey Baumener.

He was predeceased by seven brothers: Michael, Matthew, John, Daniel, Peter, William and Joseph. Steve was also predeceased by two sisters: Mary and Helen.
