Wayne W. Lesher

Wayne W. Lesher, 77, of Jefferson Township, passed away Wednesday October 16th in the Reading Hospital.

He was married to Shirley M. (Davis) Lesher. Wayne and Shirley were married on June 11, 1960 and celebrated fifty three years of marriage.

Born January 3, 1936 at his family home in Jefferson Township, he was the son of the late Arthur and Carrie ( Wendling) Lesher.

He attended a one room school house in Jefferson Township, then the Penn Bernville High School.

He was a lifelong farmer and an advocate for agriculture. Since 1970 he was the owner and operator the Way-Har Dairy Farm and Way-Har Dairy Store which Wayne's family continue to operate today.

He served in the Army for two years.

He was an active member of Zion Blue Mountain United Church of Christ in Strausstown where he served as a former president of consistory.

He was a member of Berks County Farm City Council, was on the board of Strausstown Union Cemetery, additionally, he served on the Jefferson Twp. Planning Commission for thirty years, and was a member of the Shartlesville Grange.

He was a former member of Northkill Jaycees and Reading Jaycees.

He was named a Master Farmer in 1974, served as Past President of Berks County Holstein Assoc., and Past President of Berks Co. 4-H Extension Board.

He was a graduate of Penn State RULE Program, and was an avid an officer in the Berks German Fersommling, and a member of several local Grundsow Lodges.

Additional survivors include his son, William W. Lesher, husband of Lolly Lesher of Upper Tulpehocken Twp. Wayne's greatest joy and passion were his four grandchildren, Joshua, Jaylene, Laura, and Olivia Lesher.
There are two brothers, Forest Lesher of Franconia, PA and Harold Lesher of Upper Tulpehocken Twp.

He was the beloved nephew of the late Franklin S. and Sallie Stine.

Funeral services will be Saturday October 19th at 11 AM in Zion Blue Mountain United Church of Christ, 6573 Old US 22, Strausstown, PA 19559
(GPS users use Bernville, PA 19506) . Rev. Stephen Ericson will be officiating. Interment will follow in Strausstown Cemetery.
Family and friends may attend a viewing on Friday evening in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 N, Main St., Bernville from 6 until 9 PM and Saturday morning in Zion Blue Mountain UCC from 10 AM until time of service.
