Arlene G (Youndt) Ludwig

Sinking Spring

Arlene G. Ludwig, 88, of Spring Township, passed away in her home with her loving daughter by her side on March 19, 2022.  She was the wife of the late Winfield “Lou” A. Ludwig with whom she shared 63 years of marriage at the time of his passing on November 15, 2019.

Born in Reading, Arlene was the daughter of the late Harvey F. and Gertrude E. (Klinger) Youndt.

Arlene graduated from Reading High School, class of 1951.  She went on to pursue a career with the former Sovereign Bank and retired after 35 years as the Vice President of Human Resources in 1992.

Arlene was an avid skier and a long- time member of the Flying Dutchmen Ski Club.  She enjoyed traveling throughout Europe for her ski trips and always looked forward to her annual ski trip to Copper Mountain, CO.  She also enjoyed cruising to Hawaii and the Caribbean, and spending time at her cabin in Potter County for over 50 years.

Arlene is survived by her daughter Kelly A., wife of Kevin Mahan, of Spring Township; granddaughters: Jenna E., wife of Shawn Griffith of Exeter; Steffanie A. Mahan, wife of Andrew Phillips, of Mohnton; and Morgan E. Mahan fiancé of David Hiester, of Mohnton; great-grandson Harrison M. Phillips.  Her “adopted” daughter Christine J. Garber of Sinking Spring. A brother James Youndt husband of Betty, of West Lawn; and three sisters Janice Jones widow of the late Robert, of Wyomissing; Loretta Kriner wife of Wayne, of West Lawn; and Joyce Schaeffer widow of Ronald, of Reading.

She is predeceased by three sisters Shirley Wisniewski, Margaret Brightbill and Helen Rentschler.

Arlene will be laid to rest next to her late husband Lou, in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring.  Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
