Barbara J. (Mengel) Eisenbrown

Bernville

Barbara Jean (Mengel) Eisenbrown, a life-long resident of Bernville, Pennsylvania, died peacefully July 16, 2022, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 94 years of age.

Born in Reading, October 14, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Mengel and Lillian (Wilhelm) Mengel.

Barbara graduated from Penn-Bernville High School in 1944 and Reading Business Institute in 1947. There she met the love of her life and husband to be, George Franklin Eisenbrown, II. They were married for 67 wonderful years.

Ms. Eisenbrown worked for Berks Title Insurance Company after high school and while attending Reading Business Institute. Barbara was a homemaker and assisted her husband in his independent insurance agency for 43 years, handling phone calls, billing, and organization of the in-home office, not to mention her five children!

Barbara was a devoted member of St. Thomas Church, Bernville, where she served and worshipped her entire life in various capacities, including junior and senior choir for more than 70 years , pianist for the cherub choir for 35 years, and the Ladies Guild. She was a past president of the Bernville Women’s Club, a member of the Bernville Grange for 35 years, a member of Bernville Young at Heart, and delivered Meals on Wheels for about 20 years.

One of the highlights of her musical career was singing in an acapella ladies’ quartet, known as the “4-Bees,” all members of St. Thomas. In 1962 they represented Pennsylvania in a National Grange talent competition in Fort Wayne, Indiana, tying for first place.

Barbara is survived by her five children, their spouses, seven grandchildren, a great grandchild, a sister, and many nieces and nephews, who all share in the grief and loss of mom, grammy, sister, and aunt. Her children: Robert G. Eisenbrown, husband of Eva, Muhlenberg Park; Kathleen Basehore, wife of John Basehore, Bernville; Jill Klein, Bernville; Jan Keeney, wife of Keith Keeney, Bernville; and Heidi Jo Young, wife of Joseph Young, Hamburg. Her devoted and loving grandchildren: Michael Jason Eisenbrown, New York City; Justin Gresh, Tucson, Arizona; Evan Keeney, Downingtown; Eliana Keeney, Muhlenberg Park; Abigail Weaver, wife of Bobby Weaver, Pottsville; Samuel Young, husband of Faith Young, Pottsville; and Ian Young, Hamburg. Her great-grandchild: Atlas Weaver, son of Abby and Bobby Weaver. Her sister: Susan Procknow, wife of Bill Procknow. Nieces and nephews: Katy Miller, wife of Josh Miller; Julia LeFebvre, wife of Erik Lefebvre; Ted Mengel, Jr., husband of Bonnie Mengel; Tim Mengel, husband of Tammi Mengel; Jamie Hendricks, wife of Edward Hendricks; and Beth Milks, wife of Buddy Milks.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband George, loving grandchild, Kelsi Basehore, and her brother, Edward Mengel, and is now with them all once again in heaven’s glory.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to all Barbara’s caregivers for the special love and attention they gave her this last year. We love you all and consider you angels on earth!

A visitation will take place Sunday, August 21, from 5 to 9 p.m., at the Kirkhoff Funeral Home for those who wish to offer encouragement and thanksgiving to the family for Barbara’s life and service to her family, community, and God. A private celebration of life service will be held at the Kirkhoff Funeral Home at the discretion of the family.

Interment will be private in St. Thomas Cemetery, Bernville, at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Barbara’s memory to the Bernville Community Library, Unending Promise, c/o Luci Schaeffer 175 Kirkwood Avenue Sinking Spring, PA 19608, or Life’s Choices.
