RICHARD L. BIEHL, 99 years old formerly of Temple passed away on Friday March 17th, 2023. Born on May 16, 1923 in Temple, he was the son of Leon A. and Mary Alice (Bensinger).
He graduated from Muhlenberg High School in 1941 and attended the Wharton Extension School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Richard had a natural gift for touching the lives of those around him. He was an inspiration by example of generosity, kindness and patience.

Dick was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II serving in the First Infantry Division in both the Mediterranean and European Theatres including the D-Day landing on Omaha Beach. He was a recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge, 4 battle stars, including the Bronze Star, the Belgian Victory Medal with Gold Palm and The Knights Cross, French Legion of Honor. He is quoted in numerous publications on World War II.
He served on the Board of Directors of the Society of the First Infantry Division and was a member of the Heubner-Zimmerman Scholarship Selection Committee for many years.

He served as Postmaster of Temple and Boyertown, PA. He was Chaplain, Vice President and President of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Association of the Postmasters. In 1975 he designed the Bicentennial logo for the Pennsylvania NAPUS Postmasters still used today. He was fortunate to be part of a group of Retired Postmasters on a Goodwill Mission to Taiwan.

He also served as Judicial Coordinator for The Honorable Peter W. Schmehl from 1992-l993.

Dick was instrumental in the organization of the former Temple Civic Association, served on the Temple Recreation Board and Temple Authority.
Served as Scoutmaster of Troop #147 and was an adult leader for a Scouting Expedition to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Richard was inducted in the Muhlenberg School District Hall of Fame on November 29, 2013.

He was a member and former Trustee of First Presbyterian Church of Reading, now Park Road Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Lodge 62 F & A M West Reading since 1947 and a member of the Valley of Reading Consistory and the Rajah Temple Shrine.

He was a former Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Elder and Consistory President of
Christ Church UCC Temple and Deacon and Elder of Calvary Reformed Church, UCC,
Reading.

He served on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference, UCC.

Dick was the kind man the world needs more of!

Richard is survived by a son John R. husband of Katherine of Florida, sister Mildred Zuchowski of Exeter Twp., and brother Russell of Reading. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews and his "special lady" and long time friend Joan Jepsen.

He was predeceased in death on October 30,1995 by his wife of 49 years Lois Chernausek. Brothers Sidney and LeRoy of Temple.

A Viewing will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 10:00AM to 11:30AM
followed by a Celebration of Life Service at the Milkins Trymbiski Funeral Home, 4914 Kutztown Rd, Temple.

Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park in Reiffton.
